Night at Merrittville – Best appearing dog contest too
Before the Big Dogs take to the track for the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Triple Crown Series Finale August 17th at Merrittville Speedway – the Avondale Food Stores sponsored event will see Big Dogs … Little Dogs and all breeds in between have their own time in front of the crowd at the Thorold DIRTcar facility.
Race Fans and Race Teams alike are encouraged to bring along their dogs for the annual Best Appearing Dog Contest prior to feature action for all 5 Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions. “For many of us in the stands and in the pits,” relays (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell-Jones, “racing is a family sport … and that family includes a dog … it’s their night to join in the fun and not be left home – especially with what the Triple Crown Finale should bring.”
Race Fans will be given the chance to vote on their favorites – the winner is the dog that gets the most cheers. For several seasons the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders have enjoyed a race within the season long points. In 2012, Rocco Conte took home the Turn 4 Collision Triple Crown Series in addition to the overall title .
The mini-series was set to open on Archer Truck Services and Semenuk’s Esso Night but was rescheduled for Baron Roofing & Siding’s Event with Tyler Lafantaisie taking the opener. When they switched things up for Semenuk’s Esso and Archer Truck Services Night and the second round last month… the end result was the same with Lafantaisie coming out on top of a thriller that had three and four wide racing right thru the field. In the Triple Crown standings, Lafantaisie leads Kyle Pelrine by 18 points with defending Triple Crown and overall champion Rocco Conte 27 points out of top spot.
In addition to the Turn 4 Collision Triple Crown Finale … Avondale Food Stores Night features the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds, Rick’s Delivery Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks and J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites with their point races heating up as the Championship Chase winds down.
In 2010, Avondale Stores Limited celebrated 45 years in the convenience store business. Locally owned and operated, the 96 “stores” and dairy operation from which they evolved are a testament to hard work, commitment, dedication, and above all the “entrepreneurial spirit”. From it’s start offering milk delivery to local St. Catharines households in 1932 from the family farm on Stewart Road – the still family owned company has been in the convenience store business. Do you remember glass milk bottles … and horse and wagon delivery?.
Today, Avondale Food Stores offer a variety of services such as faxing, photocopying, Western Union Money Orders and Money Transfers, ABM Service, a variety of grocery items at low prices, coffee, slush and many other convenience foods. Enjoy the last days of summer by picking up some cool treats at your local Avondale.
