Niagara’s Complete Concrete Contractor is set to host Niagara’s Complete Canada Day Celebration Saturday June 25th when the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints make their only 2016 appearance at Merrittville Speedway.
Rounding out the final event of June are the Pinty’s Delicious Foods 358 Modifieds, Hoosier Stocks and the 2nd Ballhockey.com Enduro Qualifier accelerated by Niagara College, $1 Piller’s Hot Dogs and FIREWORKS.
"It was more than 30 years ago that the ESS made their first visit to Merrittville,” said ESS President Chuck Miller, “and still today the annual visit is always a highlight on our schedule … the Thorold track sure has some great fans and they love Sprint Cars.”
“We’re happy to host an early celebration of both the Canadian and the US Birthdays with the mid-season Fan Appreciation Special,” adds Bicknell-Jones, “4 divisions of racing … $1.00 Hot Dogs all night in the Grandstand and FIREWORKS … there’s definitely something on the menu for everyone.”
Steve Poirier from St-Mathieu de Beloil Quebec currently leads the Einstein Construction Group Canada Tour Points over Jason Barney, Jordan Poirier, Paul Kinney and Paulie Colagiovanni. Barney, of Constantia NY who leads the overall Championship Tour Point Standings won the last ESS A Main at the Utica Rome Speedway and took home the Sprint Car portion of the Rev’s Full Throttle Powersports Spring Sizzler April 23rd.
The annual Gary Cunningham Memorial featuring the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints is a memorial established by his son Travis and the family as Travis grew up with his dad sharing a love of racing through the Go-Karts ranks up to the 358 Modifieds and Sprint Cars. "My dad was everything to me in my racing career," said Travis remembering his dad, "we had so much fun together.” Gary Cunningham, a former drag racer and engine builder, died in December 2010, at the age of 61, after a six-month battle with cancer. Cunningham was one of the best engine-builders around, and when it came to camshafts, Gary was the best man in the country.
