St Catharines Ontario’s Syme den Hollander won his first Vansickle Pet Valu & Groomingdales Enduro accelerated by Niagara College Sunday August 26th.

On Air Hosts from Giant FM rocked the first Bus Race against their counterparts from sister station Country 89 – sweeping the first three spots. Jef Brown, Giant FM Afternoon Show host put on quite an afternoon show in winning the event while raising money and awareness for the Kirsten French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara.

The Seaway Mall Motorized Mayhem Event also had John Burt, Christine Burkholder, Kyle Pelrine pick of wins in the Backwards Race, Ladies Race and Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series Driver Bus Challenge. The team of Dylan and Dave Murre won the Side by Side Race.

den Hollander who started the 100 lap Event in the 16th spot hung around in the lead pack – taking over top spot on lap 96 from John Burt.

Burt took the lead on lap 77 from Shaun McDonald.

McDonald took over top spot from S&W Service Centre Sportsman Racer Rob Goulding. Goulding who won the second qualifier and started second was the initial leader. Goulding unfortunately fell victim to a flat tire and was forced to the pit area.

den Hollander was followed by Burt, David Mayne, Mark West and Corey Lawton.

“Fun, but I wouldn’t want to driver the thing full of kids lol … Bus Drivers aren’t paid enough,” said Jef Brown in Victory Lane after the Giant FM Country 89 Charity Bus Race, “I drove like I live … as fast as I can and always turning left.”

KK, Giant FM’s Midday Host racing for Niagara Dog Rescue was first to lead the Bus Race with Jef Brown quick to challenge. By lap 3, Brown was the new leader.

“My heartfelt gratitude to Merrittville for the opportunity to give exposure to an extremely important LOCAL and completely volunteer charity, Niagara Dog Rescue.”

In support of the Alzheimer’s Society Niagara Region, GIANT FM Morning Host Brian Salman quickly began to challenge KK for the runner up spot – taking the spot on lap 6.

“That was the most fun I’ve had in a school bus!” said Lucas Haberer from the GIANT FM Promotions Department.

“It was quite the rush to have the fans cheering for us all after the race,” said GIANT FM/Country 89 Traffic Reporter Brandon Warby, “What an amazing experience – everyone had a blast … I hope to do it again next year!”

“That was a ton of fun! A huge thank you to the crew at Merrittville for making it fun and help me feel safe doing it,” said Country 89 Midday Host Stephanie Mizzi who raced for the Learning Disabilites Association of Niagara, “I can’t wait for next year!”

“I had the most fun finishing up dead last,” shared Country 89 Morning Show Host Rob Leclerc who was racing for the Canadian Mental Health Association Niagara Office.

The 6th Charity was Wounded Warriors which was on the Country 89 Bus of Morning Show Host Andre Gervais.

Merrittville Speedway would like to thank everyone at Giant FM and Country 89 in addition to Saturday Night racers Rob Goulding and Charlie Lynch from the S&W Service Centre Sportsman Division, Billy Bleich and Kyle Pelrine from the Hoosier Stock Division and Cole Hardy and Jay Moulton from the Central Fabricating and Welding 4 Cylinder Division for all their help and coaching.

After helping each of the On Air Hosts as co-pilots during some practice laps, the Saturday Night racers took each other on in an impromptu Bus Race of their own.

“It was a lot of fun,” said eventual winner Kyle Pelrine, “we were all chirping each other before the start. It was a great race with Charlie (Lynch) that’s for sure.”

His Saturday Night experience and before that Tuesday Nights on the Kart Track probably helped Billy Bleich Jr. make the safe of the day and perhaps the season.

Bleich had the Stephanie Mizzi Bus half sideways coming out of Turn 4 taking the white flag but was able to regain control.

“It was crazy,” said Flag Pole Race Winner Jon Burt, “but it was fun.”

Burt took the lead on lap 4 of the event that includes circling a concrete block ‘flagpole’ placed on the front stretch each lap.

Mike Armstrong won the Backwards Race while Christine Burkholder won the Ladies Race.

The Side by Side Race provided double the excitement for pairs of drivers in cars chained together side by side.

Dylan and Dave Murre were quick to lead the special event before spinning out their cars in Turn 3 of lap 3. A quick donut brought the two back up to speed but not before losing the lead.

After recovering from the mishap, the two were back in the lead at the checkered flag after the team that inherited the lead had one of their cars flip over in turn 4 putting an end to their race.

The Seaway Mall Motorized Mayhem Event also included several performances by Train Wreck. The finale had the Monster Truck demolish several cars supplied by Thorold Auto Parts and Recycling and a Travel Trailer provided by Niagara Trailers to the delight of the fans.
