Brad Rouse Hoists Silvr7 Stirling Cup after Winning King of the Crates Finale at Merrittville

Mat Williamson wins 9th Modified Feature of 2018

THOROLD, ONTARIO (August 18, 2018) ... Brad Rouse from St. Catharines, Ontario won his second feature of the season in the David Chevrolet Sportsman and earned the Stirling Silvr7 Cup on Niagara Trailers Night at Merrittville Speedway on Saturday night. Mat Williamson from St. Catharines, Ontario won his ninth S&W Service Centre Modified feature of the season. Dave Bailey from Hagersville, Ontario won his third Hoosier Stock feature of the season. Tony Kelly from Niagara Falls, Ontario won his second Central Fabricating 4 Cylinders feature of the season. Chris Watson from Niagara Falls, Ontario won his second Vansickle Pet Valu Mod Lites feature in 2018. Adam Plazek from Caistor Centre, Ontario won his eighth Dave's Auto and Speed Centre V6 division feature of 2018.

Cody McPherson and Trevor Wright David Chevrolet King of the Crates finale for the David Chevrolet Sportsman with McPherson taking the lead from his pole position. Brad Rouse would take second away from Wright and would start to go after McPherson. Rouse would take the lead away on lap five from McPherson. Off a lap six caution, Rouse would take off in the lead with McPherson, Chad Chevalier, James Michael Friesen, and Brent Begolo racing in the top five. McPherson would battle with Rouse off a lap 10 caution for the lead as Brent Begolo would pass Friesen to take over fourth place on lap 11. Chevalier would take second away from McPherson on lap 29 and would set his sights on race leader Brad Rouse while working in lap traffic. Rouse would pull away to score the win, his second of the season. "I have to thank all the guys working on the car during the week and my family for their support. I'm honored to win the race as I started racing with the Willards" Rouse said in victory lane. Brent Begolo from Thorold, Ontario was the David Chevrolet King of the Crates Champion after earning a fourth-place finish. "It is so hard to win these races but winning the first two helped" Begolo stated post-race.

Rick Richner and Tim Jones led the field of S&W Service Centre Modifieds to the green flag for their 35-lap feature event with Jones showing the way. Ryan Susice would take second away from Richner on lap two, as Mike Bowman, Mat Williamson, and Gary Lindberg started to work their way through the field. Bowman would move into second lap five, with Susice regaining the position just a half-lap later. Susice would take the lead away from Jones on lap seven. Williamson would take the lead away from Susice on lap 16, with Bowman, Chad Brachmann, and Pete Bicknell racing in the top five. Brachmann would move into third place, just as Susice continued to battle with Williamson for the lead. Williamson would pull away from the field to win his ninth feature of 2018. "We had a good car tonight" Williamson said in victory lane. "My sister had a baby yesterday, so it is cool winning a day after", Williamson continued.

Bill and Tanner Podwinski brought the Hoosier Stocks to the green flag with Bill showing the way with Dave Bailey and Brad Sheehan racing inside the top three. Bailey would take the lead away on lap two. Billy Bleich Jr would move up into the top five. Bleich would then get around Kyle Pelrine to take over third and would go after Bailey and Brad Sheehan. Bailey would pull away from Sheehan and would go on to score the win, his third of the season.

Austyn Werstroh and Dan McKay were on the front row for the Central Fabricating 4 Cylinders feature event with Werstroh showing the way early on. Tony Kelly would take second away off the start and would challenge Werstroh for the lead. Anthony Kelly Jr brought out the caution on lap three. On the restart, Kelly would take the lead with Cole Hardy taking over second place, with Werstroh, Alex Riley, and Jay Moulton racing in the top five. After a lap 11 caution bunched the field up, Tony Kelly would lead with Hardy challenging. Kelly would hold off Hardy to score his second win of the season. "I can't believe that we are here tonight. The track was perfect", started Kelly in victory lane.

RJ Pietz would take the lead first in the main event for the Vansickle Pet Value Mod Lites. Brent Begolo would take the lead away from Pietz on lap two with Chris Watson moving into second. Begolo and Watson would battle throughout the 15-lap feature go, as Jeffery May raced in third place. Over the closing laps, Watson would make a move on Begolo and Watson would score the win, his second of the season.

Chris Mussat would take the lead off the start in the feature event for the Dave's Auto and Speed Centre V6 division. Adam Plazek would take the lead away on lap four from Mussat and would check out on the field. Plazek would drive away to score his eighth win of the season. "We got lucky tonight to be the first one to the front and we stayed there", Plazek said in victory lane.

NOTES: During intermission, fans had the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers during the popular autograph session. When fans visited "Fast Freddie" Carleton's #BonesMobile, they had the chance to meet Niagara Ice Dogs goalie Stephen Dhillon.

Racing resumes on Saturday, August 25 as St. Catharines Husky presents the Driver's Appreciation Payout Night featuring the Harry Sittler Memorial, twin 37-lap features for the Modifieds. The Race of Champions Dirt 602 Sportsman Series makes their inaugural visit to Merrittville and they will be joined by the Hoosier Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Gates open at 5:30pm with racing getting underway at 7pm.
