Mother Nature Gets Fifth of Year at Merrittville

by Steven Petty    THOROLD, ONTARIO (June 15, 2019) … With the impending forecast throughout the region, management of the Merrittville Speedway made the decision to cancel the scheduled racing action for Saturday, June 15.
“This is the third time in the last four weeks that the weather forecast has been about the same for Saturday night racing”, comments Merrittville Speedway’s Don Spiece. “We gambled and lost the previous two times, costing our teams money to travel and then get rained out.”
The weather has been very frustrating for teams and tracks throughout the Northeast as it is the fifth rainout of the season at Merrittville Speedway.
Saturday racing returns on June 22 as Country 89 presents the Gary Cunningham Memorial for the Southern Ontario Sprints. Joining the SOS will be the 358 Modifieds, Hoosier Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and the second Tim Hortons Enduro Qualifier accelerated by JC Auto. Next Saturday will also feature $1 Hot Dog night at the grandstand concession stand. Pit gates will open at 5, with grandstands at 5:30 and race time is scheduled for 7 pm.
