Emily Robins Named 2019 Miss Merrittville

by Steven Petty

THOROLD, ONTARIO (May 16, 2019) … Merrittville Speedway management is pleased to announce that Pelham native Emily Robins has been named Miss Merrittville for the 2019 season.

Every Saturday night, Emily was at the track cheering on her father Wayne to two Dwarf Car division track championships in 2005 and 2006. After Wayne retired from racing, Emily still continued to be at the track cheering on the competitors and enjoyed going to NASCAR races, especially at Bristol and Dover.

Emily is attending the University of Guelph and is currently going into her fourth year in the Agricultural Sciences program. Growing up on her family farm, Emily has been putting her knowledge to use as she has been scouting agricultural fields in the Niagara and Haldimand regions, looking for weeds, diseases, and insect pests for the fast two summers. To further her involvement, Emily is a member of 4H. She has shown her goat Hershey at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair this past November and won Reserve Grand Champion in the showmanship category.

She is a graduate of Welland Centennial, where she was on the dance team. Outside of school, Emily was a competitive dancer at Dance Place Welland, where she also taught younger dancers. She completed her National Lifeguard at age 16 and has been lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons in the region over the past five years.

Whether you find Emily walking fields, her goat, around a pool or track, she is always happy to be an active member in the region and is very excited to be 2019 Miss Merritville.

Fans can see Emily throughout the night walking the grandstands and greeting drivers in victory lane. Emily will also be at events to promote the speedway throughout the season.

Merrittville Speedway is currently in their 68th consecutive season of racing. Saturday nights in the Niagara Region comes alive with the sounds of the Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series featuring the S&W Service Centre Modifieds, David Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, Doidge Builders Mod Lites, Central Fabricating 4 Cylinders, and Dave’s Auto and Speed Centre V6’s. Pit gates open at 5 pm with grandstand gates opening at 5:30 pm and the first green flag will fall at 7 pm.
